A major step in the rise of phygital sport in Germany was announced at ISPO Munich, the flagship event of the global sports industry, where the WPC member in Germany, Force of Disruption GmbH, introduced the Phygital Sports League Germany. The initiative creates a new pathway for clubs and athletes to take part in the growing global movement.
To mark the launch, Force of Disruption GmbH hosted a Phygital Football tournament on site at ISPO Munich, bringing athletes and gamers together in an integrated format. The event demonstrated how phygital sport can expand participation for clubs and highlighted the strong interest already developing across the country.
Lutz Meyer, CEO of Phygital Sports League Germany said: “Given the rapid growth and international visibility, Phygital Sports has become an integral part of the expanding global sports market. It is all about emotion, excitement, and performance. We’re thrilled to kick off the league at ISPO with an unforgettable show. The PSL brings together teams of athletes and esports players both on the field and in the digital arena and interest from clubs and gamers is already immense.”
A key feature introduced during the event was the PSL SportsBox, a fully equipped module designed to help clubs launch phygital activity with ease. Its complete plug and play setup includes a PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Meta Quest 3, along with selected esports titles, gaming hardware, and a satellite internet connection for stable streaming anywhere. This brings consistency, accessibility, and a high quality experience to clubs of all sizes. The SportsBox also includes an integrated VEO camera system that records matches, edits footage automatically, and creates highlight clips ready for social media.
Speaking about the PSL SportsBox, Lutz Meyer added: “With the PSL SportsBox, we’re creating a modern sports offering for all clubs connecting gamers and esports athletes with traditional sports. The SportsBox arrives fully configured and ready for use: plug it in and step into a new era where physical activity meets digital worlds. The SportsBox will become the largest member retention program in sport globally.”
Dan Merkley, Chairperson and Managing Director of the World Phygital Community, said: “The announcements at ISPO in Munich reflect the global appeal of phygital sports and the opportunities for both traditional sports clubs, as well as esports teams, to participate in the future of sports. The ambition of our WPC member, Force of Disruption GmbH, not only will drive excitement in Germany but can provide opportunities for existing, and yet to join, members to host their competitions so is a global game changer.”
The debut of the Phygital Sports League Germany follows the recent formation of the WPC Global Advisory Council, which is providing guidance as the organization expands awareness and engagement in phygital sport across new territories.
