The WPC 2026/27 tournament season has officially begun. Esports Entertainment E.I.R.L. became the first WPC member to stage a tournament this season with its Phygital Origins: Lima – Dancing competition in Peru on August 15-16.
It marks the beginning of a new calendar of competitions organized by WPC members around the world, as athletes and clubs begin competing and building their rankings ahead of the next Games of the Future.
A new season begins in Lima
Eight participants competed in the new season’s first Phygital Dancing tournament, with Sergio Mayta taking first place. The result continues a strong year for Mayta, who finished third in Phygital Dancing at the Games of the Future 2026 in Astana.
The tournament is the first of six on Esports Entertainment E.I.R.L.’s calendar this season – two Phygital Origins (in Phygital Dancing) and Phygital Rivals tournaments in all four core disciplines (Phygital Football, Phygital Basketball, Phygital Dancing and Phygital Shooter.)
With five tournaments still to come, the program will give athletes in Peru further opportunities to compete, develop their experience and earn ranking points throughout the season.
Building phygital sport in Peru
For Renzo Cordiglia, President of Esports Entertainment E.I.R.L., the new season is an opportunity to build on the experience gained over the past year while continuing to grow phygital sport in Peru and across the region.
“Our goal this season is to deliver every tournament to a high standard, from Phygital Origins through to Phygital Rivals. We have already seen strong interest from audiences in Peru and across the region, and we want that interest to keep growing as the calendar continues.”
Setting the season in motion
David Feng, Chairman of the World Phygital Community, welcomed the early start made by Esports Entertainment E.I.R.L. and the scale of its plans for the months ahead. “Seeing Esports Entertainment E.I.R.L. get the 2026/27 season underway marks a strong start for the World Phygital Community. The first tournament has already brought athletes together in Lima, and there is much more to come, with a full calendar planned across Phygital Football, Phygital Basketball, Phygital Dancing and Phygital Shooter.”
He added: “This is what we want to see across our global membership: more tournaments, more opportunities for athletes to compete and a strong calendar of phygital sport throughout the season.”
