Advisory Council

The Advisory Council brings together distinguished leaders from sport, technology, diplomacy, and innovation to provide strategic guidance on the development of phygital sport worldwide.

Each member contributes unique expertise spanning international event management, sports governance, digital transformation, and cultural exchange. Together, they support the WPC’s mission to shape the global framework for phygital disciplines, foster collaboration among esports and sports federations, and accelerate the integration of physical and digital competition.

Bernt Erik Bjontegard

Bernt Erik Bjontegard is a seasoned technology innovator and cross-sector leader with a career spanning aerospace, government, and emerging digital industries. A former NASA rocket scientist and R&D executive at Qualcomm, Bjontegard has led pioneering projects in space technology and mobile communications. He is the founder of Spark Compass, an award-winning contextual intelligence platform that has powered smart city solutions and enhanced fan engagement in sports through augmented reality and the Internet of Things. Bjontegard has also managed multiple partnerships with global tech giants from Apple to Qualcomm, IBM and Samsung and has multiple awarded patents globally with over 50 pending, bridging the divide between ideas and their practical implementations.

Known for his strategic vision and collaborative leadership, Bjontegard has served as an advisor to government agencies and international organizations on smart city development, space innovation, and digital transformation.

He holds multiple technology patents and has been honored by the White House and industry bodies for his contributions to innovation, including recognition as one of the world’s top digitalization leaders and IoT inventors. A frequent keynote speaker at global forums and member of select international advisory boards, he also excels at closing the gap between the public and private sectors. Through his international experience and future-focused insight, Bjontegard continues to drive new initiatives at the intersection of sports and emerging technologies.

Francline Fonderson

Francline Fonderson is one of Africa’s emerging voices in phygital innovation and youth development. As Founder and President of the Cameroon Association for Technology and Cultural Exchange (CATCE), he has pioneered transformative programs that merge traditional sports with digital competition, empowering communities through creativity, technology, and education. A pioneer esports developer in Cameroon, Francline is the brain behind Cameroon Esports, the country’s biggest gaming sensation that has redefined the local esports landscape. He also works with the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations (NASEF) and HP Gaming Garage to deliver cutting-edge esports training, while serving as the National Technical Director of the Cameroon Federation for Electronic Sports, where he contributes to the strategic growth and professionalization of the sector.

Under his leadership, CATCE successfully hosted Cameroon’s first Phygital Rivals for Phygital Basketball, a groundbreaking event that blended basketball with esports elements and set a new benchmark for event delivery and engagement in the region. Fonderson’s work embodies innovation rooted in community spirit — engaging local governments, sponsors, and youth networks to build sustainable pathways for young athletes and gamers across Central and West Africa. His events celebrate African culture by fusing music, dance, and art into competition, creating dynamic expressions of the phygital movement. As an advisor and thought leader, Francline brings invaluable insight into grassroots mobilization, regional engagement, and social impact, inspiring a new generation of changemakers driving Africa’s digital and phygital sports revolution.

Jorge O’Ryan Schutz

Jorge O’Ryan Schutz is a Chilean leader whose career spans diplomacy, public administration, private sector and sports management. A former professional basketball player, he went on to serve as President of Club Deportivo Universidad Católica, guiding one of South America most celebrated sports institutions through a period of stability and success. His subsequent diplomatic appointments included service as Chile’s Ambassador to Germany and later as Director General of ProChile, the country’s export and investment promotion agency.

At ProChile, O’Ryan spearheaded modernization programs that emphasized sustainability and international collaboration, earning recognition for advancing Chile’s global competitiveness. Today, he serves as Director of International Development at the UC Innovation Center, where he continues to foster partnerships between academia, business, and government. Widely respected for his integrity, discipline, and pragmatic leadership, O’Ryan brings to the Council an exceptional network across Latin America and Europe, as well as deep understanding of how diplomacy, governance, and sport can converge to strengthen international cooperation and community development.

David Feng Xintao

David Feng Xintao is an entrepreneur and expert in international event marketing and the global hospitality industry, with more than two decades of experience delivering world-leading events in fast-changing and highly competitive environments. He served as Protocol, Event and Hospitality Manager at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), where he oversaw the planning and delivery of hospitality programs for the Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, London 2012, and Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. In this capacity, he managed operations serving over 10,000 corporate and commercial guests at each edition and led event and hospitality functions at the IOC Headquarters in Lausanne.

Feng has worked extensively with governments, Local Organizing Committees, National Olympic Committees, International Federations, and major global brands associated with the Olympic Movement. Based in Switzerland and originally from Beijing, he brings a unique blend of entrepreneurial drive, diplomatic expertise, and cross-cultural insight gained from working across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America. His experience in designing world-class hospitality programs and managing international partnerships makes him a valuable contributor to the Council’s mission of advancing excellence and inclusivity in phygital sport.
